The 4 C's: Cut

Antique diamonds

We use certified post-consumer recycled antique diamonds for all our diamond jewelry. These stones are distinctive in their era, cut style, light-performance and rarity. We choose these beauties for ethical reasons, and also because we love their lively pops of light and color.

(From left to right)

Old Mine Cut
1700s-mid 1800's, known for the cushion shape that follows the natural octahedral shape of the raw diamond crystal.

Old European Cut
1800's, known for large flowery facets and open culets.

Transitional Cut
1920s-1950s, the precursor to the modern-cut brilliant blends the best of both antique and modern.

The 4 C's: Clarity

High standards

We always select eye-clean stones, meaning you will need the 10x magnification of a loupe to see any natural imperfections within a stone. Consider that all our photography is shot with a magnified lens. For most stone shapes, we are not big-believers in spending a lot of extra budget on high clarity ratings- to the naked eye, no person can detect the difference. Save those extra dollars for a honeymoon, your wedding, or your home. We think all stones are gorgeous in the natural form.

The 4 C's: Color

Diamond grade

We love all natural diamond colors - we don't believe in pressuring clients to only focus on the most 'valuable' stones because we find beauty in all of them. We can advise which color might look best for your setting, but we really encourage you to select based on your intuition and budget. All our stones over 0.5ct are graded by GIA with the same standards as modern-cut brilliant diamonds, and include a certificate.

The 4 C's: Carat

The right size...

...is whatever size feels right to you. We do not have rules about what size is enough, how many months salary you are suppose to spend, and we certainly do not see our rings as a measure of any person's worthiness to love. We encourage you instead to consider your body shape and size, your activity levels, and your budget.

Carat is a measurement of weight, so these samples are an approximation of size. Antique diamonds and sapphires tend to have a little more variation in the correlation between carat weight and the dimension of the stone, but this image is a great reference.

Starting at the base of the finger: 2ct, 1.5ct, 1.25ct, 1ct, 0.75ct and at the tip of the finger is 0.5ct.

Metals

Metal Colors

Tonally diverse

We offer most our styles in the colors shown in both 100% recycled gold and Fairmined Gold, (from left to right):

14k yellow gold - our signature color, beloved for its muted tones and durability.

18k yellow gold - a higher karat content, higher yellow hue, and a bit more delicate.

14k rose gold - for the pink lovers out there.

14k white gold - a silvery color with a warm golden underhue, enjoyed for its classic look and toughness.

platinum - this ultra dense metal is hypoallergenic, shines brilliantly, and weighs quite a bit heavier.

Textures and finishes

Our signature matte

We love depth, texture, story. Our signature matte finish is a soft brushed look that warms up to a demi-shine with wear. It adds a layer of subtlety that we find beautiful and modest.

Textures
(From top to bottom)

Smooth- slightly hand-hewn but mostly uniformly smooth.

Organic- a mixture of textures, both native and applied, that give a naturally broken in feeling.

Antique hammer- a foiled texture that is applied by hand with one of our antique hammers. Only available on select rings.

Traditional polish

We apply our signature matte to all our stock pieces for the ease of reference, but all our rings look stunning dressed up in a high mirror polish. Select this for a bright and lively feel that will develop a patina over time with wear.

Magical Rainbow

Montana Sapphires

Mined and cut in the usa

Kaleidoscope of color

We work directly with gem-artisans who purchase rough stones from ecologically responsible mine-sites in Montana, cut the stones to excellent standards, and then send them our way, resulting in an incredibly short chain of command of only three entities:

Mine > Gem cutter > Crown Nine

Mines sites are practicing post-mining regenerative environmental restoration and the stones themselves are artistically crafted by experts.

We offer the most popular colors standard on our site but Montana sapphires come in every color of the rainbow- and we can work with you to find the perfect color: yellow, purple, red, pink, blue, orange, green, grey, brown, multi-colored... the choices are abundant.

These colorful beauties are also incredibly hard, rating a 9 on the Mohs Scale. They are comprised of the exact same material as sapphires and rubies from other regions in the world, making them a smart choice for engagment rings that will be worn daily.

We love to hear from you.
